Manager Magazine: How AI Can Reveal Hidden Health Risks in Chest X-rays

Daniela Taneva, Business Consultant Health Technologies at MY Synergy for Manager Magazine, October 20, 2026

In its October 2026 edition, Manager Magazine features MY Synergy’s ongoing AI healthcare research project, exploring how artificial intelligence can extract additional clinical information from existing chest X-ray images to support early risk identification and preventive healthcare.

Exploring the Predictive Value of Medical Imaging

At the center of the project is CXR Insights Pro, an AI algorithm that analyzes routine chest X-rays to identify imaging patterns associated with long-term health risks.

The technology is being evaluated for its potential to identify elevated risks related to:

  • Lung cancer and chronic respiratory diseases, including COPD

  • Cardiovascular diseases

  • Type 2 diabetes and metabolic disorders

  • Chronic kidney disease

  • Vascular risk factors associated with cognitive impairment

The ongoing pilot involves the analysis of more than 50,000 chest X-rays to assess the algorithm’s performance and applicability to the Bulgarian population.

Unlike traditional diagnostic imaging, which focuses on a specific clinical question, this approach investigates whether existing medical images can provide additional information for risk stratification without requiring new examinations.

Supporting Clinical Decisions, Not Replacing Them

A central message of the article is the distinction between AI-assisted risk assessment and medical diagnosis.

CXR Insights Pro does not diagnose diseases. Instead, it generates risk estimates that may help physicians identify patients who could benefit from further clinical evaluation or confirmatory testing.

The project also explores integration into existing Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS), allowing AI-assisted analysis to fit into established hospital workflows.

Making Better Use of Existing Healthcare Data

The article highlights the potential of opportunistic medical imaging analysis to extend the value of routinely collected healthcare data.

If successfully validated, this approach could support earlier identification of health risks, more targeted screening initiatives, and better-informed preventive healthcare strategies.
