How AI Can Support Human Expertise in Higher Education
Petar Mihaylov, Business Consultant, on TechBG Interview, September 16, 2026
Artificial intelligence is already changing higher education. The key question is no longer whether universities should use AI, but how they can apply it in a way that supports academic expertise rather than replacing it.
In a recent AI in BG interview for TECH.BG, Petar Mihaylov, Business Consultant at MY Synergy, shares our perspective on the practical role of AI in universities and the experience behind an AI solution developed together with the Medical University of Pleven.
The project addresses a very practical challenge: universities already have large volumes of valuable academic materials – textbooks, lectures, research papers, cases, and other content – but much of it is difficult to access and reuse efficiently. AI can help make these existing materials easier to find, structure, and use in the everyday work of faculty.
“We see AI as an intelligent assistant, not as a replacement for academic expertise.”

The interview also explores how AI can support lecturers in time-consuming activities such as preparing and structuring exam materials, allowing them to dedicate more time to students, research, new educational programmes, and activities that require human judgement and experience.
An important part of implementing AI in higher education is trust. For MY Synergy, this means combining reliable sources, transparency, and human control.
“Trust is not earned through promises, but through transparency and control.”
Petar Mihaylov, Business Consultant @ MY Synergy
Rather than developing technology for its own sake, the goal is to create solutions that fit naturally into existing workflows and address real challenges faced by their users.
“AI can process information, suggest ideas and automate repetitive activities, but it cannot replace human judgement, experience and responsibility.”
Petar Mihaylov, Business Consultant @ MY Synergy
The interview highlights a broader approach to AI at MY Synergy: technology creates the most value when it strengthens human expertise, makes existing information more accessible, and gives people more time to focus on work where their knowledge and judgement matter most.
